It is coming!

My mind is full of things.
Buzzing around like flies.
Lists, plans, concerns.
Places to be, things to buy,
No time to waste.
Though presents are bought,
Cards are sent,
Still I buzz with thoughts.
Children need to be at school on time,
Christmas concert practice,
Watching the real thing.
Festive lunches with friends,
Dressing up and drinking wine,
Wearing silly party hats and laughing.
Presents to wrap,
Food to prepare,
Excitement, anticipation.
What will their faces be like,
As they open their presents?
Will there be squabbles,
Or will there be peace?
When I try to let go and relax,
The thoughts come battering
At the door of my mind.
I must think, I must plan,
I must list, I must prepare.

Papa, help me let go,
Help me concentrate
On what matters.
You are coming,
Although you are already here.
Love is on its way,
In a story of baby and angels,
Shepherds and kings.
A calm stillness comes,
A sense of wonder,
A feeling of hope.
In this season of fun, laughter and joy,
There is still time to pause,
To slow down and think.
Enjoying the excitement and anticipation,
Sharing the love with all.
Remembering that without love,
All the sparkling lights, the tinsel,
The parties and fun are just emptiness.
