Carbon Fast Day 2
2009 February 26
Today’s action is to cook food in a microwave. They use significantly less energy than a conventional oven. When you need to use a pan always use a lid to preserve heat when cooking – this will also cook your food faster.
D’oh! Why didn’t I read this earlier!? I’ve just had dinner – cooked pasta on the hob! I did microwave the sauce though … so I guess that counts. As for yesterday’s action, I am currently contemplating which bulb to remove from where … has to be practical and not something that will cause injuries in the dark, or annoy other members of the family unnecessarily! I will continue to ponder!

Hi there, hope you don’t mind me popping in…
I can see the advantage of using a microwave, and I do use one myself for speed, but there is evidence that using microwaves could be bad for our food. I do find that things cook better with a cooker than a microwave.
I’m terrible at remembering a lid on food, but I do use my steamer instead of using a couple or more saucepans for potatoes/veg. Less energy use, and less vitamins lost.
