Too Cute

Lemurs

Lemurs

We went to Dudley Zoo back in October and they have a walk through lemur enclosure (Lemur Wood) where you can get close to gorgeous lemurs. These 3 were waiting next to a shed … they knew what was in there! They looked so cute lined up like naughty children, trying to be good so they could get fed :) This was probably the highlight of the zoo for all of us – these cute ruffed lemurs and also loads of ring-tailed lemurs all climbing around and running along paths around us. The only thing wrong with it was that they were so incredibly cute I was dying to stroke one – they looked so cuddly! Cuddling the animals was definitely not allowed though.

Robin

I’m very tired tonight, but rather than letting this be a blogless day I shall share a photo I took of a robin when it was snowy. He was a cheeky chap who kept following me when I was out for a walk. This was the best photo I got of him :)

And now, I’m off to bed!

Colour

During the recent snow, at first I found it beautiful (if dangerous). The white snow blanketing all the ordinary things, covering them over, and making the world pristine and clean – even the most unattractive or boring things looked pretty all covered in snow. I went out for walks, gazing in wonder at it, taking endless photos.

After the snow had been with us for over a week, I started to tire of the whiteness. On the drive down to my parents’ house on boxing day, the world was monochrome, and I got weary of it. I found myself staring out of the car window searching for some colour in the world. Occasional road signs looked very bright against the snow and cheered me up a little, but the mostly monochrome view went on for miles. It reminded me of one of Abi’s computer games she used to play where some kind of baddie stole all the colour in the world.

It was quite a relief when the thaw began and I realised that grass was showing through once again. I am very fond of the snow, but after this 2nd batch the novelty has really worn off. I like my world with colour in it (and also with roads safe to drive on!). The advantage of having had the snow, of course, is that it makes you appreciate what you don’t normally pay attention to. I’m looking forward to Spring now, when the leaves and flowers start to grow again and more colours return.

End of Changing Colours

There are no colours left in the garden to watch change. The trees are bare and Wintry. They do look good in sillhouette against the evening sky though …

Sunday evening sky

Today is the last day of November and it seems that the year has flown by. We have been a little naughty and put the Christmas tree up yesterday … only two days before the start of December though! I know some people leave it until closer to Christmas but I like having the decorations brightening up the house for longer, so we usually put the tree up at the beginning of December. It’s nice to cheer up these dark wintry nights. I’ve nearly finished my Christmas shopping now, so I can relax and enjoy the run up to Christmas :)

Changing Colours 7

Yes I know, it’s Monday! I did start doing this every Saturday but I didn’t get round to doing it on Saturday this week. I’m off work today – having a day off with the children who have an INSET day.

The trees are looking very bare this week – it’s looking more wintry now, and less autumnal.

This is how the garden looks today – very yellow and many bare branches.

The willow tree is very nearly bald:

The trees growing out of the side hedge are also pretty bald and make a nice sillhouette against the sky:

The grass is now almost covered with the leaves!:

The colours are looking beautiful today in the sun. Not sure if the photo captures it fully, but it is lovely. Poor little willow is nearly bald now!

Some more pictures below of other colourful corners of the garden:

Changing Colours 4

This is a little late as it was pouring most of yesterday and I didn’t want to stand in the garden in the rain taking what would end up being blurry photos, and potentially damaging my phone! So here it is, a day late.

I discovered a setting on my phone camera which brings out the colours better, but I also took a pic on the same settings as last time to compare:

There is much more colour in the beech tree this week, and I think that there is more yellow than green now in the tulip tree.

The version with better colours is here:

Changing Colours 3

This is the garden this week. The poor little willow tree is getting quite bare and has dropped a lot of leaves. The beech is getting more colour, and the tulip tree is getting much more yellowy. The little pictures are more photos from around the garden showing the colours changing – click on them to see them bigger.

Changing Colours 2

I’m a little disappointed that this week’s picture doesn’t look alot different from last week’s. Also due to the rain it is a bit less clear. The trees I drive though on the way to work/school each day are changing more rapidly it seems, particularly the oak trees. Perhaps different trees change at different rates. And perhaps the trees in the garden are a little more sheltered? Anyway – we shall see what happens as the weeks go on.
